If you don’t know have much time and want to get into better shape, then you need to check out Alexa Skills.
Although I train for triathlons, I was looking for something that would help me with flexibility and core strength that wouldn’t take up much time.
So, over the past couple of weeks, I have been diving into the Alexa Skills that focus on fitness and exercise. I was blown away by the number of options available.
After enabling dozens of Alexa Skills, I discovered eight that I believe will help with your exercise goals.
Additionally, I have determined adding these skills to daily Alexa routines is where the real magic happens.
A routine I created recently was when I say, “Alexa, Good Morning.” Then Alexa will greet me, tell me what’s on my schedule for the day, give me a weather update, play my news briefing, and then start my push up routine.
You can also create a routine to have Alexa automatically remind you to open up some of the skills below.
Here are my 8 Favorite Alexa Skills to Get Your Butt in Shape.
One area I neglect is my core (you can tell by my poor posture and soft stomach). That’s the reason why I like 5 Minute Plank Workout.
All I need to do is say, “Alexa, start five-minute plank.” Then Alexa gives me my plank workout for the day, and it only takes 5 minutes.
Although I don’t think I’ll have a six-pack anytime soon, it does help out my core.
Give this skill a chance, and I think you’ll love the results too.
Another thing I always forget to do is stretch. As I get older, I can feel my mobility declining – especially after a five-mile run.
That’s the reason I started using 6-Minute Full Body Stretch. This Alex Skill doesn’t last long, but it is powerful.
Now, when I’m done with a run, long rind, or feel stiff, I say, “Alexa, open full-body stretch.”
It has a nearly perfect rating in Skill Store and doesn’t take up much time.
The 7-Minute Workout skill isn’t something I often use because I spend hours swimming, biking, and running.
However, I think this is an excellent Alexa Skill. It gets your heart moving and offers numerous exercises.
In the Skill Store, it says, “The 7-minute workout is a scientifically proven set of exercises designed to increase metabolism, improve energy, lower stress, and best of all, remove fat!”
That statement sounds good to me! Additionally, it boasts a 4.5-star review with over 4,300 reviews!
How Many Days
This Alexa Skill is an advanced skill you can create through Blueprints.
You’ll need to open up Blueprints in your Alexa app and then find “How Many Days”. Then you name your event and choose the date of your event.
I am using this “How Many Days” Blueprint for a 5k I have later in the year. I say, “Alexa, how many days until my 5k?”
Then Alexa tells me how many days and reminds me I better get to work! It’s a constant reminder and good motivation!
The 30 Day Pushup Challenge is to help you do 100 pushups at once in 30 days! It must be a great skill because over 460 people have given it an average of 4.5 out of 5 stars.
In full disclosure, I haven’t completed this challenge. However, I think this is an excellent skill if you want to achieve 100 consecutive pushups or improve your strength.
All you need to do is say, “Alexa, open pushup challenge.”
A Tabata workout is usually ten rounds, and each round consists of a 20 second burst of high-intensity exercise followed by 10 seconds of rest.
The Tabata Workout Skill is just a basic timer, and you choose the exercise for the workout. You can select body-weight exercises, kettlebells, dumbbells, running, or rowing.
When you combine 3-4 Tabata Workouts, then you can create a workout program that will get you in shape.
As I mentioned earlier, I like to train for triathlons. Usually, my training consists of swimming, biking, running, and cross-fit exercises.
When I’m getting in my cross-fit workouts, I like to listen to music. Instead of fumbling through my phone for music, I say, “Alexa, play my badass playlist.”
Alexa will then start playing the music from that playlist I created on Amazon music! I believe music helps intensify my workouts.
When it comes to health, you must take care of your mind, too, and this is where meditation can help.
If you have never meditated before, then I suggest giving this Alexa Skill a try. Meditation is proven to help reduce stress, reduce high blood pressure, help you sleep better, and be more present.
This meditation skill has over 70 different guided meditations and breathing exercises that last between 1 and 9 minutes. This skill will get you started down your mediation path.
When you combine your Alexa device with these 8 Alexa Skills, you can up your health game. I can’t wait to discover new Alexa Skills that will take my health to the next level.
