What are Alexa Lists?
Lists are one of my favorite features on Amazon Alexa because they give you the ability to stay organized. You can create shopping lists, to-do lists, grocery lists, or any list you need in your life.
You can access these lists through the Amazon app, on your Amazon Show, or ask another Alexa device to read one of your lists.
How to Create a List
After you set up your Alexa app and device, you’ll notice there are two predefined lists: Shopping and To-Do Lists.
However, you can create more lists. You can create a new list either by using your app or voice.
To create a list using your app:
1) Tap the Setting Menu
2) Tap Lists & Notes
3) Select Create List
4) Name your list and press enter
You can also create a list with your voice. Say, “Alexa, create a new List.”
Alexa then asks you, “What Should I Name Your List.”
Then you give your list a name. Now your list shows up in your app!
How to Add Items to Your Amazon Lists
Again, you can add items to your list through your app or voice.
To create a list using your app:
1) Go to the lists section in your app again
2) Select your list
3) Tap Add Item
4) Type out what you want to add and press enter
If you want to add an item by speaking, say, “Alexa, add items to my Grocery List.”
Alexa asks, “What Should I Add to the Grocery List?”
Next, you tell Alexa what items you want to add.
5 Cool Things You Can Do with Alexa Lists
1) Create Multiple Lists
One cool thing Alexa can do with lists is create multiple lists for the family.
We have four children and use the lists skills to simplify our lives. Our family has created some of the following lists:
- Grocery List
- Home Project List
- Daily Chore List for Each Child
- To-Do List
- Christmas Lists for Each Child
As you can see, we utilize these lists to make our lives easier. The older kids can print their daily chore list or ask Alexa to tell them what’s on the list. Anytime we run out of food, we just ask Alexa to add it to our grocery list.
This feature is also nice around Christmas time. We create a Christmas gift list for each child. When they see something they want, they say, “Alexa, add an iPhone to Travis’ Christmas list.”
Luckily I have control over their lists, so I would go in and delete their iPhone from their list :).
Creating multiple lists can help organize your life to get things done, keep track of chores, and much more.
2). Print List
Another cool thing Alexa can do is to print your lists. This feature is for those who like old school paper in their hands and get satisfaction from physically checking off the items.
There are two ways to print your lists.
Assuming you have a wireless printer set up to your Alexa, then all you need to do is say, “Alexa, print the grocery list.” Alexa sends the list to the printer, and you can take it with you.
If you don’t have a wireless printer hooked up to Alexa, you can access your lists through your desktop computer. Here’s what you’ll need to do:
- Type in alexa.amazon.com
- Sign in to your account
- Go to your lists
- Click print
3). Message/Email Lists
Sometimes you need to share your list, and one of the cool things you can with Alexa is email or message the lists.
This feature is excellent if you are sending a Christmas list to a grandparent or a grocery list to your spouse.
To message a list to someone:
1) Open up the Amazon app
2) Go to Your Lists
3) Select the list you Want to Message
4) Tap the 3 Dots in the Right-Hand Corner
5) Select Share at the Bottom
6) Select Message or Email
7) Send Your List
4). Check Off/Remove Items
There is no point in a list unless you can check off items. You can easily do this with Amazon Lists.
Once again, you can check off items through the app or with your voice.
To remove an item with your voice, say, “Alexa, remove Ketchup from my grocery list.” Alexa checks off the Item.
You can also use your app to check off items. If you want to check off items using your app, then you need to do the following:
1) Access the List in Your App
2) Tap the Circle Next to the Item you Want to Check Off
3) Alexa Will Move that Item to the Completed Section
4) If You Want to Remove the Item Permanently, then Left Swipe and Delete
5) Access Your Shopping List on Amazon
Let’s say you are in you’re watching TV and see a commercial for a new Coffee Maker that you want to buy. Add it to Amazon Alexa by saying, “Alexa, add the Ninja Coffee Maker to my Shopping List.”
The next day, you remember you wanted to buy a coffee maker, but you can’t remember which one. Luckily, Amazon remembers, and you can access the list on your Amazon account.
This feature is another cool thing Alexa can do to make sure you remember what you wanted to buy.
To access your list on Amazon:
1) Sign in to your Amazon account
2) Select Account & Lists
3) Select Shopping List
4) Buy What You Put on the List
As you can see, there are several cool things Alexa can do with lists. Hopefully, you can utilize the lists skill through Amazon to simplify and improve your life.
