As most of you know, during the past few years I have been busy focusing on my day job, selling on Amazon (which has been amazing), and my family.
Over the past six months, I learned some things had to be eliminated to pursue some personal goals I want to accomplish
It’s just not possible to keep up with my three kids (plus one on the way), maintain a great relationship with my wife, work 40+ hours at my job, sell on Amazon, and find time to pursue some things I’ve had on the back burner.
As we’ve all heard/said, “I’m not getting any younger.”
I decided something had to give.
For now, that something is selling Amazon. At least for a few months.
There are a few things I want to accomplish this year.
First, I need some physical challenges in my life. I feel better when I am training.
Or maybe this is my mid-life crisis:) Whatever you want to call it, I have been wanting to do this for years.
So at the end of spring, I decided to race in four events this summer. The events include:
- Obstacle Course (already completed)
- 5k with a goal of finishing under 20 minutes
- Olympic Triathlon (this is the one I’ve been putting off)
- 1/2 marathon
When I say race, I don’t mean I’m trying to compete for first. My goal is to finish the race with respectable time.
In the past, I have participated in a few races. Mostly 5ks and one 1/2 marathon.
Training for those events shouldn’t be too difficult.
However, when I started researching triathlon training, I realized this is an entirely new animal.
If you aren’t familiar with an Olympic Triathlon the distance is a .93 mile swim, 24.8-mile bike ride, and 6.2-mile run.
In addition to training for the triathlon, my goal is to complete it in under 2 and 1/2 hours.
This goal will take some time and hard work!
Here is just one month of one of my training plan:
This training schedule looks great on paper, but I know life will hit hard. Kids will get sick, I won’t feel like getting up early, and injuries will happen.
When that happens, I’ll have to hit back harder and figure out how to train anyways.
Additionally, there is a lot to learn! Some things include:
- Open water swimming (I don’t want to drown)
- How to make proper transitions between swimming and biking and then to bike and running
- Getting a crew to help (probably Mom & Dad)
- Managing time
- Adjusting my bedtime to get up early
As you can see, this is going to take some serious time, and there is a learning curve.
To follow my training, check out my Instagram account, as I post there frequently.
The second reason I am taking some time off from Amazon is to focus on Stuff Parents Like and give you what you want.
After sending out a survey a few weeks ago, the majority of the community want me to focus on (1) personal finance, (2) health, and (3) creating new products (both free and paid).
So that is what I’m working on!
In all honesty, I hope to replace some of my lost Amazon money through this blog:)
How Do I Plan on Accomplishing All of This?
With my Amazon business, I would usually stay up late. It worked because I would binge on Netflix and pack boxes.
That is not going to work with these goals.
I’m going to have to wake up early. That’s why I’m committing to waking up at 5:30 every morning during the week to get in my training (maybe 5:00).
Additionally, I am going to have to be more disciplined with my schedule and time.
Lastly, I’m limiting my wine intake (luckily the NBA Championships are over:)
As long as I can manage my time properly and stay disciplined, I know I will accomplish these goals.
