Today is October 9, 2016.
If you are reading this article, either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton has been elected our next President of the United States (hopefully we aren’t sitting in a tie).
Some people are happy. Others are upset.
My Facebook feed will probably be littered with posts about how stupid half of America is for voting for the other candidate. Some people will claim they are moving to Canada.
No matter who is elected, America will survive, and you will survive.
I’m not trying to downplay the election – it is important. It is vital you research the candidates and make informed decisions based on your beliefs.
Fortunately, though, your success and happiness are not determined by who wins the election.
You will not become wealthy or poor because of who is sitting in the oval office.
Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, Jacqueline Mars, Walt Disney, and thousands of other successful people never cared who was the President when they started their journies.
They created their success based on hard work, determination, and taking some risk. Not the president.
Success isn’t given to you, it is earned. To achieve more success, invest in yourself.
You will not get in shape or become fat because of who is in the White House.
Your health is not dependent on who is president. It is your decision to exercise and eat healthily or watch television and frequent McDonalds.
Your relationships with your family are not based on who is President.
So far I have lived through six presidencies. From what I can remember, no matter who has been president my family has loved me and I have loved them.
You aren’t going to treat your kids worse, love your spouse less, or disown your parents because of who gets elected.
Lastly, your attitude probably won’t change no matter who wins this election.
If you are an asshole, then you will probably still be an asshole. If you have a positive attitude and try to do good in the world, you will continue to do good.
As you can see your success, health, relationships and attitude doesn’t depend on who is our president. It depends on the choices you make every single day.
So I ask you this: Make these choices every single day;
- Love more
- Work hard
- Exercise a little bit
- Reach out to those worse off than you
- Hug your children
- Kiss your spouse
- Tell your parents you love them
If we all made these choices every day, no matter who the president is, then we will all be ok, and our country will thrive.
