The truth is I am an app junkie.
Whether it is for productivity, gaming, or business; I like to check them out!
Today I thought I would share with you, my favorite apps from 2016.
We all know about Facebook and Pinterest, but one of my favorite new platforms this year is Musical.ly.
Musical.ly allows you to create 15-second music videos or funny sketches. The variety of options is unreal. You can pick to sing to Bruno Mars 24K Magic or create a funny skit using Sponge Bob. There is also an option to use audio files from your phone.

Additionally, you can edit the video with face filters, speed up/slow down, and even pause the video for a costume change.
When you finish editing the video, download it to your phone or share it to your favorite social network.
When this app first came out, my kids and I had hours of fun creating short videos. Take a look at a few of our creations below.
There are numerous reasons I haven’t made the switch to an Apple Watch (like the non-existent battery life), but I am in love with the Fitbit app and my Fitbit Blaze.
The app is beautiful, easy to navigate, and has everything you need to live a healthy lifestyle.
You can open up the app and quickly see:
- Floors climbed
- Calories burned for the day
- How many hours of sleep you got last night
- Resting heartbeat
- Daily weight (when you buy the Fitbit scale)
If you take a few extra minutes, there is so much more you can find out too. Here are a few of my favorites:
Details of workouts.
Below are the details of my last workout. You get feedback on heart rate zone, average heart rate; calories burned, and how the exercise impacted your day.
This is great when you are analyzing workouts. You can see if you were pushing yourself or if you need to work harder. There is a lot of information packed in.
You can take look at my sleep for the past week from the screen shots. I strive to get seven hours of sleep per night, but as you can see, I’m short on that goal.
You can also review your sleep pattern. On Friday, I was sleeping for 6 hours and 55 minutes, awake one time, ten times restless, and up for 19 minutes.
When you look at these logs frequently, you can start to get a better idea of how to sleep better.
When you purchase the Fitbit Scale, every time you weigh yourself it will update your app.
During the past few months, I have been lifting weights and haven’t stuck to an eating plan. Thus, I have gained some weight. Below is what the app details:
There are also some other features I enjoy:
- Silent alarm
- Joining challenges
- Earning badges
Something I have tried to implement more in my life is meditation. By no means am I an expert, nor am I very consistent.
Mediation may sound a little new age, but there are a lot of proven health benefits. Some of those benefits include:
- Reduces stress
- Improves concentration
- Can increase happiness
- Benefits the immune system
To learn more about meditation here is an excellent article by Tami from the Inspiration Lady, A Beginners Guide to Meditation.
I have experimented with different meditation apps, but Headspace is my absolute favorite.
The best part about Headspace is “Andy” (he is the voice behind Headspace and your personal guide) walks you through a free ten-day foundation class of meditation. During this time you’ll learn the basics of working toward a clearer mind.
Once you complete the free ten days, you can either pay for more meditation levels, try it on your own, or continue with the free foundation class. The paid version costs $12.95/month or a yearly fee of $94.99 ($7.92/month).
Personally, I like repeating the foundation class. You get all the benefits without the costs.
Ebates is one of those programs that is a must for anyone shopping online. If you don’t know much about Ebates, I wrote a post detailing all of the benefits.
Ebates is an affiliate program that shares the revenues with you. When you shop at stores, online, through their app or website you get cash. The cash back can be as little as 1% to as much as 20%!!!
For example, if you shop at an online store like Kohls (they are currently offering 8% back) and spend $100, then you will receive $8. Not too shabby, right?
The money accumulates and you get a “Big Fat” check four times a year. Last year I earned over $700 from Ebates.
When you download the app to your phone or tablet, you can do all of your shopping on them. It makes it easy and profitable!
You can download the app here and get $10 for signing up.
Two of my favorite places that don’t involve a beach are Starbucks (caffeine) and Chipotle (ideal for low carb meals).
However, I hate waiting in the long lines at both of these places. You can easily waste 10 minutes at Starbucks and 20 at Chipotle.
To avoid these lines, I now pre-order from my phone! Both apps allow me to save my favorite drinks or meals. So with a few taps of a button, I can place my order to virtually any of these restaurants in the country.
Once I complete the order from my phone, I stroll in and pick up my food.
If you are in love with Starbucks or Chipotle, then download these apps, save time, and cut to the front of the line!
One thing I love is reading. However, as I have gotten older and had kids, I don’t have as much time to read.
Then I discovered Audible!
Audible is a library of audiobooks that you can listen to from the Audible app on your phone or tablet.
The way it works is you pay a flat fee of $14.95 per month. That fee gives you one credit that you can use to purchase one book per month. Additionally, you’ll get 30% off the retail prices of other books, and there are daily specials with books as low as $2.99.
Since I am in the car almost all day, I take full advantage of this app.
If you sign up here, you can get your first book and 30 days free.
These apps probably won’t make you rich, but you’ll save time, have fun, and live a healthier lifestyle if you just utilize a few of them.
