As parents, we are extremely busy.
There are kids to raise, careers to manage, relationships to maintain and we haven’t even discussed health, finances or the million other daily activities we must manage.
However, we often use the word “busy” as an excuse not to do things that are important.
Here are a few examples of things I hear parents say they are too busy to do:
- Eat Healthier
- Read a Book
- Get a New Job
- Start a Side Business
- Plan a Date Night with their Spouse
- Learn a New Language
I do agree we are busy, but we need to stop using that as an excuse.
Whether you want to lose weight, get a new job, or start a side business – it is POSSIBLE.
Instead of “wanting” to do something more, make it a priority. Determine why you want to accomplish your goal.
For years, I wanted to lose weight, but I never made it a priority. Then I determined I need to get in better shape for my family. My why for everything in life is my family.
If you are having trouble finding time because you are too busy, I have created a few ways to find more hours in your day below.
I don’t think you should stop watching television altogether, but I do recommend limiting the amount you watch. Believe me, you won’t miss much if you don’t binge watch The Making of a Murderer.
If you cut the number of hours of television you watch by one hour per day, then BAM you have an extra seven hours a week.
Pro Tip: Don’t TIVO every program on your television.
2) Get Up Earlier
Now that you aren’t going to binge watch shows, get to bed at a decent hour and get up earlier.
If you can get up an hour earlier that is like adding two hours to your day. You will be more focused and uninterrupted. The morning hours are a great time to exercise, read, write, or even search for a new career.
3) Schedule What You Want to Accomplish
In my experience, what gets scheduled usually gets done.
For example, if you schedule a doctor’s appointment then you usually go to it. If you put on the calendar your child has a baseball game, you probably go.
The same thing happens when you schedule what you want to accomplish. Schedule exercise, reading, or starting a side business. You will take great strides when you do this.
4) Stop Cyber Stalking
Everyone loves Facebook or Twitter or Instagram or Pinterest (you get the idea), but how does this help you accomplish anything? It doesn’t matter how many times you like something on Facebook because they don’t pay your bills.
I promise you will feel better if you spend time exercising or reading rather than catching up on what people you don’t care about are doing.
5) Improve Your Sleep
Sleep is probably one of the most overlooked aspects of our lives, but it is sooo important.
I know we can’t all get 7 to 8 hours of sleep, but we can all improve our sleep. When your sleep quality improves you gain more energy, feel better, and become healthier.
You can learn more about the importance of sleep here.
Though we may feel we are too busy to get any more accomplished, I promise there is more time than you think.
If you want to find the time, you will.
