Last night, I watched the movie, “Heaven is for Real“. Regardless of your religious beliefs, this is a movie I highly recommend to every parent.
I suppose this movie has a special meaning to me because I like to believe my son, Christian, is enjoying Heaven the way the movie depicts it. Let me explain…
In the movie, Colton Burpo – a four year old little boy, gets very sick and almost dies in the hospital. Although he survived the burst appendix and never clinically died, soon after the surgery he starts describing to his parents about visiting Heaven with vivid detail.
Burpo talked about the beauty of Heaven and how the Angels sang to him when he entered. He described meeting his sister who died in his mother’s belly. He also mentioned he met his relatives who died before him!
Additionally, he explains how everyone is so nice – including Jesus and there is no reason to be scared in Heaven. Along with much, much more.
I don’t know what you believe, but I would like to believe Colton Burpo’s story. It gives me comfort knowing my son never experienced fear and he has never been by himself.
I would like to think when my son died, he was met in Heaven by singing Angels and Jesus, like Colton. Then I believe he was embraced and hugged by all his relatives before him. I believe all of his great-grandparents are teaching him about his grandparents, that his Uncle Bill gave him a nick name almost immediately, and everyone made him feel safe.
Additionally, after watching this movie I have a little more comfort knowing all my son has ever known is peace and love! He never had experience pain..hate…or hurt.
Sorry for digressing, but I this movie meant a lot to me. Whether you “believe” or not, I think this is a movie every parent should watch!
