If you are like most parents, then you look for ways to improve your life. However, you want shortcuts!
You don’t have time to research the best diets, read every single email, or waste your willpower. Heck, you hardly have the time to get the recommended seven hours of sleep.
Whether you are looking to lose weight, improve productivity, or find time to read; I am going to share with my favorite hacks that help me get more done.
7 Hacks for Parents to Improve Productivity, Lose Weight, and Earn Money
Do you liberally give your email address out to get coupons and notified of huge deals?
If you are anything like me, then you have probably given your email out about three million times. It’s great to get the deals, but a bloated email is the worst.
Unroll.me is the solution to your bloated email problem and it’s FREE!
To use this application, Unroll.me filters through your email to locate subscription emails. Then you decide what goes to your inbox and what Unroll.me extracts.
Once a day, Unroll.me sends you one email with all of the extracted emails!
This allows you to simply browse and click on the emails you feel are important. You won’t have those promotional emails sitting in your inbox anymore.
2) Slow Carb Diet
Do you hate diets?
Me too, but I like to stay fit. So far the best eating plan I have discovered is the Slow Carb Diet.
I read about this in Tim Ferris’ book the Four Hour Body and immediately tried it.
Here is the abbreviated version of the diet:
- Every meal, six days a week, you pick a protein (i.e. meat, eggs, etc), a bean, and vegetables.
- You can also drink coffee, tea, one diet soda per day, and up to two glasses of red wine
- One day per week you can eat whatever you want. Seriously whatever you want. It can be an entire pizza, 3 burgers, and a case of beer.
When I was strict on this diet, it really worked. I lost about eleven pounds in 3 weeks and a few inches off the midsection. During this time, I wasn’t exercising. So the results were impressive.
Currently, most of my meals consist of meat, vegetables, and some brown rice. However, with kids I have too many temptations so the occasional ice cream or an extra cheat meal enter my diet:)
3) Apple Cider Vinegar
For the longest time, I read about the numerous health benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar.
Finally, I decided to buy a bottle and try it myself as an experiment. Since I am a person who is always ready, fire, aim; I didn’t do much research on how I should ingest the drink.
So I just opened the bottle and just about knocked myself out. The smell is potent. Imagine running 10 miles, seven days in a row and never changing your socks. That is pretty much the way Apple Cider Vinegar smells.
After taking a tablespoon straight, I knew there had a be a better way. The best way to drink it is as a tea.
The best recipe I have tried consists of eight ounces of water, 1 tbs of Apple Cider Vinegar, 1 tbs of raw honey, and a dash of cinnamon. Warm up the cup, stir, and drink.
You’ll get a nice burst of energy and it is delicious. If you want to know the health benefits, here is a great article about Apple Cider Vinegar at Mamavation.com.
Again, I had read about the numerous health benefits of cold showers. I know this sounds crazy, but it is one of the best things I have done in my life.
Cold showers in the morning are great for you. Here are just a few of the health benefits:
- Wakes you up
- Improves circulation
- Stimulates weight loss
- Reduces stress
- Can help fight depression
- Improves skin and hair
- Speed up muscle recovery
The biggest benefit I have experienced from taking cold showers is improving my confidence and willpower. Getting in a cold shower is hard to do. It’s not natural.
However, when you can force yourself into doing something that uncomfortable, it makes other uncomfortable things easier.
Try it for a week and I bet it changes your life!
Don’t have time to read?
Don’t want to spend the money on audio books for your drive to work.
Then get the OverDrive App. This app allows you rent audio books from your local library and listen to them on your mobile device.
There are thousands of titles to chose from and you can finally catch up on all that reading!
Who has the time to visit every website they want to read?
Instead of trying to visit every blog, get an account with Feedly. You specify what blogs you want to keep track of on your Feedly account. Then Feedly aggregates these blogs and they show up in your feed.
Personally, I am able to scan more than 100 blogs everyday. I don’t read every blog, but I am able to quickly see what interests me. Then I pick and choose what I want to read.
This app easily saves me many hours every week.
Probably the easiest way to earn some extra cash is through Ebates!
When you sign up with ebates you earn extra cash for shopping at stores you already shop at. Below are just a few cash back stores and the percentage of cash back you can currently earn:
- Walmart – 2%
- Kohls – 6%
- Express – 2.5%
- JCPenney- 3.0%
- Macy’s – 3.0%
- Target – 2.0%
- Gymboree – 1.0%
Since most of us already shop online, you might as well get an ebates account. After you sign up for ebates, make sure to get the Chrome extension. This will remind you to use Ebates when you make your purchases.
You get paid out once a quarter. Last quarter I earned $207.80 just for making purchases I would usually make.
The reason Ebates pays you is because you are using their affiliate link. So they also get paid. It is a win-win situation.
If you implement some of these hacks in your life, then you will save time, lose weight, earn money, and improve productivity.
