As parents, our time is scarce. Between managing children, marriages, careers, household finances, and reality television; we barely have time for anything else.
So where do we find the time to accomplish what we really want out of life?
Whether you want to lose weight, change careers, or start your own business, I believe you can do it! I also believe there is plenty of time to accomplish those goals. Even if you have three children five and under.
Again, I know you are busy, but we all have been sucked into this “I don’t have the time” trap. Here are 5 ways to get more time out of your day so you can accomplish some of your dreams.
1) Cut Out TV You Don’t Love
I’m not going to get extreme and claim you must stop watching all television. That’s just weird, but I think you should stop watching television you don’t love.
If you stop watching one hour of television per day, then that is the time you can use to put towards something else. That’s seven hours a week you have to work on a side business, take a class, or exercise.
That’s plenty of time to earn an extra $1,000 per month selling things on Amazon, like me! (Here is a link to my course and $100 off the course)
2) Wake Up Earlier
This is easier said than done, especially if you have children who don’t sleep well or get up really early. However, if you can manage to get up 30-60 minutes early than them, then you will be able to get a lot done.
If you get up 45 minutes earlier, you can do any of the following:
– Run 3 miles (5-6 if you’re fast)
– Lift weights
– Write 4-5 pages of a book you want to publish
– Work on a side business
– Learn a new skill or many skills over a few months
If you want to learn how to get up early, then I highly recommend Andy Traub’s book, Early to Rise.
3) Learn To Say “No”
The easiest way to get more time in your life is learn to say no. Many of us are very accommodating and want to make everyone happy because we want people to like us – that’s human nature.
If you can say no more often, you will have more time to work on the things that matter in your life. Learn to say “no” to happy hours, staying out late on weekends, and even stuff at work.
When you say no, you are saying yes to the things you want to do.
4) Power Down
When was the last time you checked your email and it was life changing…probably never. So turn off the power on your phone and learn to be present with your family and at work.
You will be more efficient and get more done. I bet you will be able to do to twice as much work.
5) Lunch Breaks
Your lunch break is one of the best times to grab an extra 45 minutes a day. Instead of spending an entire hour eating; try reading, writing, dreaming, or writing down ideas. Then turn that 45 minutes a day into doing something you want.
